Learning to Love the Heck Out of Korea #4- Get the HECK out of Mokpo! (part 2)

Day 2 and 3 in Busan were just as good as the first, but much less eventful. I had big plans to get up early and go to the Jagalchi fish market, but ended up sleeping in a bit after I was up late the night before chatting with some of the other travelers. Anyway, no big deal, I ended up finding the Jagalchi fish market a-ok and really enjoyed walking around the displays of various sea creatures. The smell at first was… gross but by the time I actually reached the market, I couldn’t smell it anymore. There are pictures of the giant octopus and edible (?) seashells on my picasa page. Maybe I’ve been in Korea too long, but I found that a lot of the stuff looked really delicious. Is that weird? The seafood was so cool looking that I wanted to take lots of photos, but I felt like I might make the sellers think that I was making a spectacle of their livelihood that I ended up not taking as many as I would have liked. I mostly snapped them really quickly when no one was looking. I didn’t want to be rude! After the fish market, I hopped back on the subway and went to the UN Memorial Cemetery where there are statues representing each UN country that fought in the Korean War and a large cemetery where some of the fallen soldiers from these countries are laid to rest. It was a nice experience. There are signs leading into the cemetery explaining to be quiet, which made the experience all the better, except there was this one old Korean man (called an ajishi) who kept hacking and horking during my quiet reflection time. I was SO appalled. As I was walking past, he did it again and I whipped my head around so fast and gave him my best (worst?) death glare. Grrr… Anywho, I picked up some chamchi kimpbap and a coke and hopped back on the subway in search of Hyundai beach (“the #1 famous beach on Asia”, I’m told). It was really nice (not Bermuda nice, but what can ya do?) and I found a spot to sit in the sand and enjoyed my lunch and book. I snapped some photos and walked up and down the beach then went off to the Busan Aquarium. SO COOL! When you first get to the aquarium, you take an escalator down a dark tunnel with glowing sea creatures all around and make your way into the aquarium. The best bits were these large remakes of famous paintings where the figures were sea creatures. The sea life was really cool, too. Check out my pics. I realized on this trip that I need to get a tripod because it’s really difficult to photograph in dark areas (even dusk) when you’re holding your camera. It looks shaky. Plus, it’s difficult to use the self-timer to photograph yourself when you have to prop your camera up on something (Which is what I did for my self-portraits from this trip. They didn’t turn out badly, but could have been better ☺). That night I made dinner at the hostel and watched a very popular Korean film, “My Sassy Girl”, with a tourist from Australia. I went to bed late again and left around noon the next day. All in all, it was a great weekend away. Enjoy the pictures! TL.

PS- I have two university interviews coming up! Wish me luck!
